The first day of the Great American Beer Festival is always our favorite. For one, the crowd is not as large as it is on day two and three. Don’t get us wrong. The crowd is still extremely large. However, it nothing like it usually is on Friday and Saturday. Second, the beer is just being popped open so it is extra fresh. Third, the brewers and brewery reps are just as excited to begin the weekend as the patrons. Everyone’s eyes are bright and ready to serve the public their best beer.
There were many highlights for us this year as it relates to the beers. We were able to really spread ourselves around. We usually focus on a particular area each day. This trip we decided to let the opinions of other patrons guide our decision on what we should try. Some of the breweries that really stood out to us so far are Great Notion Brewing, Right Brain Brewery, Kuhnhenn Brewing Company, Deep Ellum Brewing Company, and Liquid Mechanics Brewing Co. Double Stack Imperial Stout by Great Notion Brewing
It is an Imperial Breakfast Stout brewed with Clutch coffee and Vermont maple syrup.

DRIPA Double IPA by Kuhnhenn Brewing Company
This Double Rice India Pale Ale has an intense hop nose, with aromas mainly of citrus. The high hop character dominates this IPA’s flavor pro-file. Made with American long grain rice, it is quite difficult to make but the rice con-tributes to this beer’s crisp aftertaste.

Four Swords 2017 – Whiskey Barrel Aged Belgian Quad by Deep Ellum Brewing Company
This is a whiskey barrel-aged Belgian quad with hints of dark fruit, oak, toffee and vanilla. It will knock you off of your feet.
